Honoring Fathers

The month of June means spending time outdoors having picnics, camping, swimming and the like. June is also a big month for weddings and graduation celebrations. This is also the month we celebrate our fathers. Fathers Day is for celebrating the men who have had a major impact in our lives. This may be a biological father, a Step Father, a Grandfather, an Uncle or any man who has been a mentor to us. We do not always know who may come along and become an important influence in our lives. Fathers Day gives us a chance to honor these men as well as thank them for all they have done for us.

Fathers Day can be particularly challenging when dealing with the loss of a father or father figure. This is the perfect time to think about what the men we have lost have meant to us and what we learned from them. Did they teach you to fish, to work on a car, to play ball or maybe to cook? Were they the one who listened to your dreams, mentored you or just always believed in you? In my case, my maternal grandfather was one of the most special men in my life. He shared his pure love of baseball, the importance of kindness and not judging others as well as love of family. He has been gone for more than thirty years and I still miss him every single day. He was very instrumental in making me who I am.

The men in our lives do not always get the same credit that the women do, although they deserve to. Fathers day gives us the opportunity to honor the men who helped to make us who we are. There are many ways that we can remember the important men we have lost on this day. We can make a favorite dish of theirs, we can volunteer somewhere in their name, or we can share stories about them with others. It is very important to not only remember their legacy, but share it with others to ensure that they are not forgotten.

We will be hosting a free workshop to honor the men in our lives that we have lost on the 21st of June at 10 am. We will share stories and make something special to remember them. We hope you will be able to join us!
